A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Police said the 40-year-old media personality was approached by three suspects, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
